Had to put this one in (now Engineers don't make mistakes like this one)

Explosm.net: These guys are twisted, alot of funny and not so funny comics. Some are in really bad taste, some are morbid, but most are pretty good

Hay Point Coal Terminal

One of the most interesting parts of the road trip was visiting the Hay Point Coal Terminal, 38km south of Mackay. It was constructed around 1970 and had undergone many expansions over the years. What goes on there?? Well coal is transported from mines to the terminal, where it is stacked in stockpiles before being loaded onto ships...the coal then goes all over the world. It is one of Australia's largest and most efficient coal receival and export facilities.

The average cargo of each ship is 93,000t!!! Ships are loaded at 2 different loading berths; one with a capacity to load 6,000 tonnes per hour!! Shows just how big the coal industry really is in Australia.

Coast trip!

Ok. I've posted some pics of home. What alot of people don't realise is just how far away far North QLD is (and i mean FAR) from Brisbane. So at the end of the summer holidays I agreed to test it. A friend and I packed up his good old 1990 Corolla (it's a BEAST!) and tested the theory of just how far it really is. Drove all the way down the coast from just north of Cairns right into the heart of Brisbane...yes all 1700kms of it.

Stopped to check out heaps of places like Cardwell, Airlie Beach (schoolies haunt for north QLD kids), Mackay, Bundaberg, Gin Gin (and had the best steak ever), Tin Can Bay, Rainbow Beach and finally.........BRISBANE!

Was actually a pretty cool road trip coz I've never done the whole coast before. Saw some interesting parts of Australia...and some not so interesting (trees, trees, dirt, trees, dirt...). All in all, a great road trip. Think I'll make a kind donation to Jetstar next time I want to head back up north though :)

HOORAY! It worked

Ok. 2nd try

Oops

Ok. That is not what i wanted to post. haha. I'm gonna give it another go.

More About Me

I’ve grown up in far North Queensland and now live in Brisbane while I’m completing my degree. When not doing uni stuff I enjoy shopping (yes, even engineering chicks like shopping), going out dancing with college friends and heading up to FNQ to see family. At college I’m involved in organising social events like formal dinners and O-week; a very cool role.

Career/uni degree description: At university I go to classes that all relate to areas within the field of Civil Engineering. It’s a fairly heavy degree at times, but worth the challenge!
